Bram Stoker (1847–1912) was a graduate of Dublin's Trinity College where he befriended Oscar Wilde. He worked as the assistant to the most famous english language actor of his time Henry Irving and also managed his theatre, the lyceum in London, As Henry Irvings assistant he was widely travelled and able to meet many of the well known figures of his time. He never travelled to Eastern Europe where his novel Dracula took place but instead is said to have been influenced by the Hungarian author Armin Vambery and years of research into Romanian folklore.
