Paperblanks Blue Velvet Ultra 2023 Planner takes its cover design from a velvet panel with a rare pattern. Owned by Hungarian financier and art dealer Marczell Nemes until 1931, the Italian original velvet panel reproduced on the cover was gifted to the Metropolitan Museum of Art by the Rogers Fund in 1945. The cover is patterned with a seven-lobed shield outlined with teardrop shapes. A motif popular at the time, each shield is decorated with an artichoke-like botanical shape created using brocaded gilt metal thread.

Velvet is the most highly prized fabrics of the Renaissance, and was considered a work of art and finds new life as a highly prized Paperblanks Ultra 2023 Planner cover.
